About Viv Gordon Company

Our work is a campaign to increase visibility, voice and community with adult survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA).

CSA remains a taboo subject and is rarely talked about outside therapeutic support settings and, because of this, survivors lack cultural and political representation resulting in CSA survivors being the largest marginalised group most people have never heard of.

There’s an estimated 11 million of us in the UK.

VGC’s work seeks to remove barriers to participation for CSA survivors and drive narrative change moving away from ideas of victimhood, guilt, shame, isolation and cultural silencing towards celebrating survival, joining together and laying claim to cultural space to make noise about our experiences, rights and concerns. We do this through creative activities:  performances, installations, poetry, writing, workshops, campaigns, consultancy and more.

Artistic Director, Viv Gordon has a strong track record as a theatre maker, arts/mental health campaigner & survivor-activist grounded in her lived experience of Child Sexual Abuse.

This year we are working on new projects that continue to explore the creative articulation of trauma:

Cutting Out - part show, part installation, part collective act of resistance - previewing Spring 2020
Restless - an arts activism project in development using coastal landscapes to tell stories of survival

Viv has also been touring a new commission from Life of Breath about the lived experience of adversity called The Book of Jo

Previous work includes:

ORAL - explores sexual abuse, dentistry and civil rights and previewed Spring 2019
I am Joan - an autobiographical hopeful comedy about trauma recovery.
PreScribed (a life written for me) - explores the side effects of being a GP in the 21st Century.

Viv Gordon Company is an Associate Artist with Strike a Light and Exeter Northcott Theatre.

She walks...

We launched a new music track and animation exploring the unknown territory of surviving Childhood Sexual Abuse and on the 25th November (to coincide with the first day of the 16 days of Activism against Gender-based Violence).

Inspired by walking coastal landscapes, the short digital artwork shares survivor experiences of feeling far away, navigating difficult journeys and living on the edges of society.
